I bought the pen as a gift for my friends kids. I love the reader and 5 books I bought. However I bought a new reader which in stores comes in a Poingo box with all necessary components to make it work. This company sends the item in a generic brown box without the adapter. When I contacted them they would not help me they wouldnt even respond. However Amazon was great once I contacted them I have no complaints with their service. The item is for older kids and it isnt a read along it actually tells you the story unlike the tag. The games are a little more advanced your children will need to know terms such as left and right which the 4yr olds are now learning I wouldnt go younger with this item. The inside cover has the directions to make the book work so for all you out there who are complaining about the books not working you need to just read the directions and it will work as described. I dont have the adapter but I was able to use an adapter from my cell phone to download the content. My camera and my kids DS all have the same adapter so you can probably find one from another electronic that is compatible. In all if you are looking at the pen by itself you should buy the pen and book set because the adapter costs $20+ by itself. Unless you can find an alternate adapter elsewhere.

Got our first poingo as a gift lasted about 9 months. Thought ok our son may have been too rough with it. Purchased another pen, it stopped working after 9 months too! This time we were very careful it was never dropped. Emailed them 3 times, never received a response from anyone. Called 800 #, which is just some company that filters their calls, only thing they could do was send them a message. When the pen worked it was great, our kid loved it. But I don't think you should have to buy a new pen every year! And their customer service is non-existant.

We bought this from another retailer, and have 6 books so far on it. We haven't had to download/upload anything to the pen, it read the books, regardless of the source. My kids, who are 5, 4 and 2 all love this and fight over who gets it next. I think we'll be looking to get at least one more pen soon! We used it on a 1000 mile road trip and so far, still on original batteries.

The Poingo Interactive Reader works great!! This is going to be a great birthday present for my nephew. This product is wonderful for helping children learn how to read and to play independently.

My 5-year-old got this for Christmas. My husband was doing some cleaning and accidentally threw the Poingo reader pen in the trash, so this is a replacement. I am still waiting for the new one to arrive.
It works only with the Poingo books. Your child can point to words or pictures on the page for an interactive reading experience. It allows little learners to be more independent in reading. If you buy the Poingo set, it comes in a box with 2 books to start. Additional books can be purchased separately. They are licensed to use your child's favorite characters, which is a plus. Our initial set came with Disney/ Pixar Cars and Finding Nemo books.
My son has missed his Poingo reader, and since he will be starting kindergarten in the fall, we are really going to spend a lot of time working on reading over the summer. Poingo will make reading fun, rather than laborious and tedious.
