Poingo Reader and BooksMar 29, 2010
By R.C. I bought my Poingo reader 3 weeks ago on sale at toysrus though I did see some negative reviews. The negative reviews mainly centered around setup and I thought I would try to set it up and return it if I had a problem. The setup wasn't as smooth as the setup for the tag reader and at times I thought the setup had failed. I discovered that I just needed to give it more time and after 1-2 trials it succeeded. The Poingo books are big and colorful and of very high quality and much cheaper than the Tag books. The Tag reader reads the stories word by word and also page by page, the poingo reads only page by page. The latest Tag reader holds 10 books while the Poingo holds (as claimed) 50 books. The point is moot because Poingo only has about 15 books out until now and I had no trouble downloading them all onto my reader (even the ones that are being published in the near future like the Dora and Tinkerbell ones) and it has worked with every book I bought. Since then I have bought a second Poingo reader and had no trouble copying all the audio from my original reader onto the second one via my computer had drive without having to go through the hassle of a download and my second reader also works fine with all the books I have (I have 10 so far).
Getting Poingo Download Manager To Work on Windows 7Jan 13, 2012
By Brian Benton

The pen and books work fine when you have the stories downloaded onto your pen. If you're lucky enough to have a great mom and dad or grandparents, friends of your parents, Santa Claus or Hanukkah Harry who brought you new Poingo books beyond those that came with the pen, here's how to get the the Poingo download manager to work so that you can use your pen with your new books. I can attest that it's a right pain in the neck and there is no documentation or technical help available from Poingo.
Here's what you gotta do: Go to poingo's website, register for an account, and then download the 'Download Manager'. You're not actually going to get anything that you recognize as an installer unless you're lucky enough to have Java correctly configured on your browser of choice. If you're like me, you'll get a file with the name of poingo and the extension of jnlp. You'll save this file in the default downloads folder and you'll double click the file. At this point, you'll either get a message from windows saying that it doesn't know what program to use to open the file, or a message from your antivirus that this program is malware. If it says it doesn't know how to open the file, you'll need to download and install java. If you get the malware warning ignore it and press on.
After you have java working, right click on the poingo dot jnlp file and choose open with. Then choose browse, and go to Program Files (x86) and find the directory named java->jre6 (or whatever)->bin. Then find the file named javaws.exe (java web starter). double click it to associate jnlp files with this javaws. Then go back to where you downloaded the poingo dot jnlp and double click it. If everything worked right, you'll see that Java starts and the download of the download manager begins.
At this point, you need to hook your poingo pen up to your computer and know the drive letter it's associated with. When the download is complete, you'll need to login with the information you used on the poingo website. On the left side of the screen you'll see all the books you told poingo that you owned. On the right, you'll need to switch from the C: drive to whatever drive letter was assigned to your poingo pen when you plugged it in. You'll know you're in the right place when you see the names of the the books that work with your pen with the bok extension. highlight the books you want to install on your pen on the left side of the screen (using ctrl click to select more than one) and then click copy. The bok files will now be installed on your pen. As each one installs, the pen will beep. When it's all done, close all the programs, unhook the pen and test it on a hitherto non-working book. If all went according to plan, it'll recognize the story and you can begin to use the poingo as the publishers intended.
Why Poingo can't make this easier is a mystery or to me.
Poingo PenDec 26, 2011
By Disapointed Parent I purchased the poingo pen and of course the book Toy Story is one of the books not preloaded into the pen. So when i tried countless times to download the Manager Content it did not work I tried on 2 PCs with no luck. My child and I are so upset because she was really excited about the book and the activties she was going to be able to play with this pen. I am very disapointed and also when I check the pen it only has like 6 books preloaded. I wouldnt NOT recommed this product to anyone.
Downloads not workingSep 04, 2010
By Stacia Swearngin We've had our Poingo for over a year and have loved it.
This book, however, was not "preloaded" onto our Poingo pen. We've tried to download the Poingo content manager on two different computers and it does not work. Therefore, we have no way of making our Poingo pen work with this book.
Needless to say, my five year old is greatly disappointed.
Loved the Poingo, but will not be purchasing any more books for it. They also have zero technical assistance to help solve this matter.

books poingoJan 23, 2010
By L. Ziegler The book was in really great shape but it wasn't worth getting due to the pingo pen did not work, for some reason there is only 6 books that actually will work with the pen so I had to send the books and get my money back, which amazon was very great about doing.
